Color Scheming: Creating The Look You Want
Colors can give personality to an otherwise bland space. Similarly, colors can further brighten up a room or make it more inviting. The following are the major color schemes you can apply to your home decorating:
Color selection
There’s nothing more fun than choosing colors you love in adorning your home. There’s also nothing as more territorial as decorating with your favorite colors in a good way, of course.
You don’t have to repaint the walls if you don’t dig such a drastic renovating step. You can however, incorporate colors in other ways, such as through the decors, fabrics, artworks and furniture. A safer choice is to match the color scheme, such that if you have a light paint for the walls, then the furnishings will follow suit. For a bolder look, you can use contrasting shades but those that still look good together. Black and white is a classic, and mixing other colors with white is a safe option as well. But to match a yellow with a green, a red with a black or a lavender with a light blue, that is a risky color scheme but one that will surely pay off, especially if the rest of the room complements these colors.
Area Rugs
Colors can extend from the walls to the floors without having to install new flooring or re-carpeting. Even better, a sudden inspiration to change the color, design or the look of a room, can be easily done.
To match the area rugs to an existing color scheme, think only about the style and color that you like. Some styles look best in modern rooms, while others look fabulous in creative, contemporary spaces. Your area rugs will bring a lot of color into the room, so make sure that the colors balance the other major decor and furnishings in the room rather than being too overpowering in style or color.
Coordination
Contrasting or matching colors can both have a positive impact on a room’s interior. An important thing to remember is to find a similar color base to coordinate the decors. For example, the room is painted in chocolate brown for an elegant Victorian theme. The furnishings can be in different colors but the presence of brown in varying shades will make the room look put together. White and yellow combination as another example, will stand out with lots of white and yellows throughout the room.
Have fun in your color selection. Tap into your inner self and figure out what hues appeal to you. Even without a major redecorating work, your home will look like a home design magazine’s cover page.
