Decorate Your Large Room – Snug and Cozy
A room today is usually very large, with high ceilings and wood flooring, at least that what most people seem to want. It’s nice to have these large rooms but most of the time the decor makes the room seems cold.
Most of us want a cozy, homey atmosphere. Here are a few secrets you can use to make your bigger space, cozy. When you consider paint, think darker colors. One of the reasons the darker, richer tones are more popular today is because they bring warmth to a space that feels a bit chilly.
Placing a light color in the room will make the light bounce off the walls and this will make it appear even larger. To make high ceilings look lower paint the dark color on the ceiling. Less light that is reflected will make the room feel cozy and smaller.
Also when you are trying to make a larger room feel smaller, don’t place as much lighting in them. Also try purchasing larger furniture and plants which will make it seem cozier since you have the room. You won’t have the clutter feel in a larger room with bulky furniture that you would with a smaller room with the same furniture.
Another secret is using oversized furniture that rather swallows up the space. You might use groupings of furniture. In a very large room, like a great room, you can make an area for watching television, an area for reading or intimate conversations, or perhaps an area for playing board games.
With these little areas made up in the room, you will now need a way to set them apart, but also bring them together. Adding an area rug will be the right decision here. There will be warmth added, and still be a way to connect the areas. Choose rugs that have basically the same shape or design to it doing this will help the room to be pulled together and appear even cozier.
Using more than one area rug in a large room takes some careful consideration. The rugs need to flow together and not seem like they are duking it out for your attention. Matching your area rugs to the furniture group and the purpose of the grouping shouldn’t be too difficult. In a room that is 12×24 for instance, you could easily use one area rug that is 6 x 9 and one 9 x 12. Or, you could use two that are 8 x10.
Pick out a look that is close to the same color, pattern and even texture of each rug. The floor of the room will be perfect than. With two different sized rugs the room will look better than using two of the same size.
Matching the size of the area rugs will make the grouping seem to miss some luster. A great way to fix the room up with a cozy feel would be to get a large rug that has a different border design. Once you get a small rug that has the same design of both the border and rug. Get them in place and sit back to relax in your new cozy room you made.
