Living in Monteverde, Costa Rica and learning how to make Batido de Mango

Learn how to save money on your Aero Bed Air Mattress!

While traveling Costa Rica, I have discovered new favorite foods. Yes, rice and beans, that goes with everything. Other than that, a few new fruits and veggies have entered my life.

To name some of the produce that fascinates me: Chioti, Yucca, Lychee fruit and Mango’s. A drink, shake, blend that you need to try is Batido de Mango. Warning?it is addicting.

It is quick and easy to make. You need to get mango’s first. The mango’s that are more red in color offer more sugar and are perfect for a batido.

When you are at the store buying a mango or two, know that mango’s with more colors similar to red mean that it is ripe. Grab a few so you can practice and eat! Depending on where you live, they are probably seasonal, so treat yourself when they are around.

To start, peel and cut the mango anyway you like. Toss the mango in the blender. Use the scraps from your mango as compost for your own personal fruit or vegetables.

From there all you need is milk, ice and sugar. Add three cups of milk to start and a tray of ice cubes,. Or two handfuls from your ice maker.

The sugar is for your preference, I have a sweet tooth so I usually add one fourth of a cup to start and taste. Once you have added all of the ingredients, start your blender and liquefy for a minute.

You might want to blend for some time, mango’s have a fiber-like texture. If you prefer a thicker drink add more mango, a banana or ice. After you have blended, pour and enjoy!

If you are lucky like me you can sit in Costa Rica and sip on these daily, it is my new routine, in the morning, at the Hidden Canopy Tree House Boutique Hotel. Been living the dream in Monteverde for a few months now, tree houses, a mango or two, Costa Rica?life is awesome!
