Almost all old tables are worn out, especially the table top. Other people tend to purchase new tables to replace the old ones, yet, there are also people who redecorate their old table top and find them very attractive. You can replace old table top with hard wood, stainless steel, glass, or granite materials, whichever blends with the rest of your kitchen surfaces. You can also test different shapes for the table tops. Round or oval shape has more benefits in kitchen area. Round and oval shapes are better since these shapes have no pointed corners that can harm you and your children. Adding space for extra person is easier in round and oval table tops.

Make a new table top made from tiles. Fit the tiles on the table top and cut the excess parts. Smooth the jagged edge with tile file. With ceramic adhesives at the back, pin the tiles on the table top. Apply grout on the tiles and into the gaps. Let it settle down for 2 days before putting on a sealer.

You can use cloth to create a new table top look. Cut the fabric that will fit the size of the table top. Using decoupage glue, bond the fabric on the table top. Then, put high-gloss shellac for cloth protective covering. Border the fabric on the table top using tacks or cut glass.

To create a new look for your wood table top, try to refinish it. Scrape off the old finish with a scraper, then, smooth it with emery paper. Use polyurethane coating on the table top. Let it dry. Then, apply the second layer of polyurethane coating. Let it dry once more, and then apply the third layer of coating.

Lately, there is an innovative design for kitchen tables. Aside from its common functions in cooking, dining, and writing, tables are now designed with integral power points, and perhaps even sink with water and drainage outlets. Tables can also be fixed to the kitchen floor.
